The Remscheid-based heating technology specialist Vaillant Group covers in its Sustainability Report 2013 the progress made in the achievement of the sustainability targets it has set itself for 2020. In addition, the report, which is available as of now, tells how the implementation of its prize-winning sustainability programme S.E.E.D.S. is forging ahead. The programme was honoured with the German Sustainability Prize as one of the three best strategies.

Thus the new Vaillant Group Sustainability Report covers the Group-wide developments in the four focal areas of Environment, Products & Development, Employees and Society. The S.E.E.D.S. Magazine, realised for the first time, presents on more than 30 pages highlight projects in the four areas. These include the fuel-cell heating on its way to market maturity and the company’s long-term supporting partnership with the SOS Children’s Villages. “We have developed the editorial concept of our Sustainability Report consistently in line with the storytelling approach,” says Dr Jens Wichtermann, Director Corporate Communications, Sustainability Management & Politics. “Based on personal experience in the company, we aim to excite the readers, particularly for the people behind the projects, and in this way show how sustainability is lived at the Vaillant Group.”

The report’s key figures section shows the positive developments. In 2013 the company reduced its total energy and water costs compared to the previous year by 12 per cent and 38 per cent respectively. The target originally set for 2020 of drawing 100 per cent of the purchasing volumes via suppliers which, like the Vaillant Group, acknowledge the social and environmental standards of the United Nations Global Compact was achieved during the period under review.
