Vaillant honoured by consumer organisation

Panel acknowledges sustainability performance along the supply chain

The Remscheid-based heating technology specialist Vaillant has been honoured by the consumer organisation Verbraucher Initiative e.V. for its commitment to sustainability. For the next two years, the family-owned company will carry the seal “Nachhaltiger Hersteller 2011” (Sustainable Manufacturer 2011) in bronze. The non-profit organisation investigated the social and environmental activities of manufacturers in the six largest industries by sales. An approximately 350-item list of criteria developed by the Öko-Institut that includes the entire supply chain on an industry-specific basis – from the production of raw materials, to production, transport and waste management – served as the basis for their decision.

In total, over 1,300 manufacturers in the fields of foods, beverages and tobacco, textiles and shoes, furniture, construction and home improvement materials, information and communication technology, and health and personal care took part in the investigation. Thirty-three companies received one of the sought-after prizes intended to help consumers choose sustainably produced products from responsible manufacturers. “We are very happy about this prize. As a leading manufacturer of energy efficient and environmentally-friendly heating technology, we view sustainability as a central topic in all divisions of the company”, says Dr Carsten Voigtländer, CEO of the Vaillant Group. “Our customers’ steadily growing interest in products that are manufactured in a manner that is environmentally sound and socially acceptable shows that these sorts of factors play an increasingly important role for our customers.”
