Vaillant Group wins the German Packaging Award 2025.
Heat pumps are the key future technology for advancing the energy transition in buildings and protecting the climate. But it is not just the heat pump itself that plays a role here – its packaging does too. With its new, sustainable packaging solution for the aroTHERM Split plus heat pump, the Vaillant Group shows how environmental responsibility, product protection, and logistics efficiency can go hand in hand.
This also impressed the jury of the German Packaging Institute (dvi), which honoured the new packaging concept for the heat pump with the German Packaging Award 2025 in the “Logistics & Material Flow” category. The German Packaging Award is presented annually and recognises exceptionally innovative packaging solutions and forward-looking solutions in the packaging industry.
Less is more: clever reduction in material usage
The packaging concept focuses on reducing packaging materials without compromising product protection. This is achieved by using a smaller transport pallet. It saves space and reduces packaging volume by around 25 percent. At the same time, the new design enables more efficient storage and better utilization of truck capacity, allowing up to 30 percent more heat pumps to be loaded per transport.
Paper instead of plastic: sustainable materials in use
Another important aspect of the packaging design is the use of paper honeycomb padding to replace polystyrene (EPS). The honeycomb padding, which takes its shape from nature, is lightweight yet sturdy and made entirely from paper. The material is used specifically where robust protection against transport damage is required.
In addition, bulky cardboard boxes are no longer used: instead, a thin stretch film (only 150 g) protects the product from moisture and dust.

Future-proof today
The award-winning packaging concept of the aroTHERM Split plus already meets all packaging and packaging waste requirements that will gradually come into force within the EU in the future. In addition to the aroTHERM Split plus, all other Vaillant Group product families will gradually be converted to a new packaging concept in the coming months and years. Or they will be introduced with sustainable packaging from market launch. This includes the new heat pump models aroTHERM pro, aroTHERM perform, geoCOMPACT, and geoTHERM.
