On Saturday, August 1st 1874, the young Johann Vaillant “recommends himself” to the residents of Remscheid as a coppersmith and pump manufacturer.
At the time, the 23-year-old had no idea that with his plain announcement, which was vying for readers' attention along with advertisements for a big ball, Singer sewing machines and the sale from the Hochheimer company, he laid the foundation for what would become a globally active, family-owned company - the Vaillant Group.
It was ten years after the company was founded that Johann Vaillant specialised in heating technology and hot water preparation, thereby hitting the bull’s eye. With his invention of the "closed system" gas bath heater, he launched a revolutionary innovation for hot water: for the first time, it was possible to heat water quickly, conveniently and hygienically. A true revolution in the bathroom and a milestone for hot water convenience.
On August 1st 2024, Vaillant celebrates its 150th anniversary as well as a century and a half of innovations for the future of heating, and its traditionally very close partnership with the HVAC trade. As one of the leading manufacturers of heat pumps in Europe, Vaillant successfully shapes the heating transition today - in line with the company's vision: “Taking care of a better climate. Inside each home and the world around it.”
