It all began with an advert in the local newspaper in Remscheid: on 1 August 1874, the “coppersmith and pump manufacturer” Johann Vaillant “recommends himself” to the residents of Remscheid and the surrounding area. Having set up shop on Alleestraße, he pledges “fair and speedy service”.
With the "closed system" gas water heater, he launched a revolutionary innovation for hot water and comfort onto the market: for the first time, it was possible to heat water quickly, conveniently and hygienically. This laid the foundation for what would become a globally active family-owned company that contributes to a better climate with technologies for efficient and environmentally friendly heating.
In 2024, Vaillant is celebrating its 150th anniversary, a century and a half of innovations for the future of heating, and its traditionally very close partnership with the HVAC trade. As one of the leading manufacturers of heat pumps in Europe, Vaillant is today helping to successfully shape the heating transition - in line with the company's vision: “Taking care of a better climate. Inside each home and the world around it.”
