Vaillant wins prize for most sustainable product
ecoPOWER 1.0 micro-combined heat and power system awarded prize as most sustainable product in the plumbing, heating and air conditioning branch
The ecoPOWER 1.0 micro-combined heat and power system (CHP) is the most sustainable product in the plumbing, heating and air conditioning branch. Based on combined heat and power technology, the system generates environmentally-friendly, highly efficient heat and power directly at the place of use. Remscheid-based heating technology specialist Vaillant accepted the “Best of SHK” award in the sustainability category at a prize ceremony in Essen, Germany. Initiator of the prize is trade magazine Si Informationen. Readers, including a majority of the 50,000 plumbing, heating and air conditioning craft businesses in Germany, voted online on the branch’s best concepts in the categories of management, marketing and sustainability. “We are very happy about this award because it was given to us by insiders who know the practical side of the business”, said Dr. Jens Wichtermann, Director Corporate Communications & Sustainability Management, Vaillant Group. “The way the readers – among them, many of our customers – voted makes it clear how important decentralised CHP is for sustainable energy generation in Germany.” ecoPOWER 1.0 also received the German Sustainability Award last year. A decorated jury consisting of experts from business, research, civil society and politics voted the the family heat and power system Germany’s most sustainable product in 2011.
ecoPOWER 1.0 – the family heat and power system
Vaillant’s ecoPOWER 1.0 is Europe’s first micro-combined heat and power system obtainable for usage in family homes, making the technology available to a wide spectrum of buyers for the first time. And whereas conventional power stations emit more than half of the energy they produce as heat waste, the family CHP system produces heat and power on site simultaneously – in a manner that’s both environmentally friendly and highly efficient. Not only does this lower heating and power costs, it also has the potential to cut CO₂ emissions by up to 50 per cent under optimum conditions. The technology can be deployed in both new and old buildings. ecoPOWER 1.0 was developed in cooperation with the Japan-based technology company and engine specialist Honda.
