Press release

Frankfurt am Main / Remscheid, 14 March 2017

Double savings in the modernisation of heating systems

Operators who need that ultimate incentive to modernise their heating systems needn’t look any further. The Remscheid-based company Vaillant has launched a promotional campaign entitled Modernisation PLUS, subsidising the replacement of old non-condensing units and also coal-based and night storage heaters. When purchasing a new heating system from Vaillant, end customers can claim back up to €500 from the company. “When we ran this promotional campaign, Modernisation PLUS, in 2016, our incentive to replace old heating systems attracted far more end customers than we had anticipated,” says Nicole Dunker, Head of Marketing and Communication at Vaillant Germany. “This is why we’re now repeating this promotional campaign in 2017.”

End customers will find it easy to participate. As soon as a new Vaillant heating system has been installed, they can go to www.vai.vg/modernisierung-plus, download a voucher and print it out. All they need to do is send it to Vaillant together with the latest environmental safety certificate of their old heating and the final installation invoice from the relevant skilled tradesman who set up their new system. That’s all. To simplify matters further, a customer can also upload all these documents directly to the website and submit them in digital format. Soon after, Vaillant will send its subsidy directly to the end customer’s specified bank account. “Modernisation PLUS is a real bonus,” says Dunker, “as it’s valid in addition to governmental subsidy schemes.” The promotional campaign is limited to heating systems replaced between 18 April and 31 July 2017.

Anyone operating an old heating system is already facing a growing number of problems today:

1. According to Germany’s Energy Saving Ordinance, all heating systems which are over 30 years old need to be replaced (with a small number of exceptions).

2. Moreover, anyone placing their property on the market for sale or rent needs to obtain an energy performance certificate. Potential buyers therefore realise very quickly whether they can expect a high level of energy consumption or whether they need to update their system to a better standard. In both cases, the property’s value is reduced.

3. Further transparency is provided by the new German labelling regulations for old heating systems. If there’s a C or D on a boiler, the label documents that the heating is a climate killer and energy guzzler.

4. Five million German households are currently being converted from L gas to H gas, but many legacy systems do not allow this option – either because their manufacturers have ceased to operate or because the necessary spares are no longer available.
